Lupita Nyong'o Poses in Vibrant Color, Reflects on Her Budding Career

Lupita Nyong'o appears in a colorful editorial for The Guardian to promote her current role in Danai Gurira's off-Broadway show, Eclipsed, and her upcoming role in the latest Star Wars film.

Nyong'o has been exceptionally discerning about the roles she's chosen since her Oscar-win. She chose Eclipsed for it's unusual subject matter.  “It’s rare that we have an all-female cast," she explained.  And all-female African voices speaking for themselves on the stage. I don’t know any other play that does that. I felt it was something I needed to do.”

Nyong'o has become a fashion icon, but she was once discouraged from getting into acting because of her Ebony complexion.  She says she was told, “I was too dark to be on TV” by a Kenyan casting director.

Clearly they were wrong.
