Lupita Nyong'o Named PEOPLE's 'Most Beautiful'

Lupita Nyong'o is having the best year ever. After winning an Oscar for "12 Years a Slave," and securing an endorsement deal with Lancome, she's now been named PEOPLE's most beautiful person in the world.

The title is well-deserved. Not only is she strikingly beautiful, but she's been slaying red carpets with her incredible teeny weeny afro since she arrived on the scene.


The star, who was born in Mexico and brought up in Kenya, told People her early views of beauty were swayed by what she saw on television.

"Light skin and long, flowing, straight hair," she said. "Subconsciously you start to appreciate those things more than what you possess."

Nyong'o sweetly said her mother Dorothy "always said I was beautiful, and I finally believed her at some point." These are the same sentiments at a speech she gave at the Essence Magazine women in Hollywood luncheon.

This is a huge deal! Congratulations, Lupita!
