No one was more hype about the release and accompanying visuals to Beyoncé's 'Formation' than Black girls. Back in February, Beyonce made it clear that she was creating art to center and uplift Black women and girls and solidified it with a Black Panther-inspired performance at the Super Bowl.
Australian label Misha completely disregarded that context during their latest fashion show for their resort collection. They chose to end the show with the final track from Lemonade. Most shockingly, the final walk was led by supermodel Bella Hadid featured no models of color.
Runways have long been incredibly white, but the absence of Black women, here, was particularly glaring. And Misha did a worse job with diverse casting, overall, than on the Fall 2016 New York Fashion Week runways. Last season, Zac Posen cast his show with almost all Black models. Initiatives like Bethann Hardison's Diversity Coalition have worked to shed light on the lack of representation in fashion.
This is once again another example of Black culture being divorced from it's actual meaning and there's no longer any excuse.
