8 Black Women Who Slayed the American Music Awards Red Carpet

Last night's American Music Awards were, honestly, nothing to write home about. With the exception of a  predictably stand-out from Bruno Mars, it was business as usual. That, of course, didn't stop Black women celebrities from coming out to slay. Take a look at our favorite looks from the evening.

Teyana Taylor in Steven Khalil

Teyana Taylor is one of the few who opted for high glam at the decidedly more relaxed event. She showed of her incredible figure in a fitted Steven Khalil gown with "nude' bodice and mesh skirt. We do, of course, wish the mesh matched her actual skin-tone, but this is a look for Teyana.

Janelle Monaé

Janelle Monaé gave us Cruella Deville realness in a black and white fur coat. She creates interest in her signature color palette by mixing textures and adding statement accessories. Her sandals with an embellished ankle strap are the stars of the show.

Taraji P. Henson

Taraji P. Henson played up her abundant sex appeal with a menswear inspired look. The vibrant purple lip makes a statement, but doesn't distract from a look that's playful and low-key.

Ciara in Stephane Rolland

As expected, Ciara hasn't let pregnancy stop her slay. She debuted her baby bump in a drop waist gown from Stephane Rolland. She kept the monochromatic look simple with neutral makeup and a platform ankle-strap pump.

Tinashe

Tinashe's wardrobe matches her personality.

Keke Palmer in Natalia Fedner

Keke Palmer gave us vintage 90s vibes with a chain mail crop top and skirt and pink fur coat. The look paired with a sleek, cropped 'do was a perfect match.
