"Not My Nude" is a new on-going photo series showing women of color in makeup and clothing that has been labelled as "flesh" or "nude". Photographer Anastasia Warren, says, "I am photographing women with skin tones that contradict the white standard, implied by assigning a color to the word "nude", and examining the cause and effect of micro-aggressions."
Warren, who is now a college sophomore, first came up with the project concept in high school while researching for her race studies class. "I came across an article about Michelle Obama wearing a “flesh” toned dress and the commentary pointed out that it was not in fact the tone of her flesh."
